Lake fish is the pearl of Lake Garda’s cuisine and the catch is quite rich, except for the carp the most renoun and typical among the species. This has found only in Lake Garda its ideal habitat but it is getting harder and harder either to catch or to find on the menu of local inns or old restaurants. There are about 40 fish species in lake Garda, many of which are native to the lake, while some arrived by chance from nearby waters and others were introduced by man for repopulation purposes. Apart from the almost unfindable carp - still the unchallenged king of Lake Garda’s cuisine - , Lake whitefish and coregone, lake trout, eels, sardines, pike, chub, tench, minnows, carp and perch are all appreciated for their gastronomic qualities.
Fishermen associations and old fishermen’s corporations are particularly active on the eastern riviera in Garda, Lazise, Torri, Bardolino, Brenzone and Malcesine. Here you can personally choose and buy the freshest fish when the boats come home from their nightcatch early in the morning.

To practise this sport there is no need to travel to Hawaii, where kitesurfing on the waves of the majestic Pacific Ocean has become the latest craze. Equipped with a board and kite, you can go to the northern part of Lake Garda where the often-driving wind will provide immense satisfaction. The equipment and clothing required can be obtained from one of the specialist shops on the lakeside. The number of enthusiasts has growing daily since this sport arrived in Italy in 1999. Only a limited number of locals enjoy this sport, and they are by far outnumbered by enthusiasts from abroad. The age range is 20 to 40 yaers, despite few amazing exceptions, such as a 71-year-old German and an Italian one year his junior. Most of them were already experts at the twin sport of windsurfing, but there is no lack of newcomers to this discipline. Kitesurfing provides emotions that words cannot express – says, an expert of one of the schools based in Brenzone. The basic kit is a harness and wetsuit, and the helmet for beginners.
Of course, you also need a board, a kite with a control bar and line sto the kite.
The equipment occupies very little space, with the exception of the board. The first approach to this sport is a brief theoretical and practical course to determine your aptitude. For those who decide to continue, the schools offer a basic course of four lessons, a couple of hours’ theory on land and three half-days on the water, learning the secrets that only practice can reveal. At least a dozen or so sessions are required to get the hang of this sport. But caution is always a must, since technique is a skill that can only be acquired gradually. Windsurfing and kitesurfing are considered twin sports yet there are certain differences, mainly associated with practicalities. Immense thrills are guaranteed in either case, however.
What opens up bifore your eyes is a different lake, soaring and leaping up to eight metres, seeking the thrill of speed, splashes on your face and the solitude of the infinite, right in the middle of Italy’s largest lake, where thousands of tourists on the busy lakeside road admire those out on their boards, driver by the Pelér wind, or the ora, enjoying true freedom.

the world's greatest road race
Five days of intense emotions from 13 to 17 May: the first day is dedicated to the veterans of the Freccia Rossa; the second day in Brescia - with evening departure and arrival in Ferrara; on the third day everyone reaches Rome; the fourth day the rally returns, at night, to Brescia and the fifth day is the day of the awards ceremony.
Each of these days is made up of countless special moments: the presentation of the cars, the departure, parades in the historic centres, spectators waiting at the hairpin curves, admirers in the parking areas and, finally, the awards. Five days of memorable experiences for everyone, in which participants live their own personal Mille Miglia. Five days bigger than the sum of their time.
80 years after inception the MM is now a world-renowned event, epitomising the passion people hold for cars - cars in the pursuit of adventure, excitement and discovery.
The "Freccia Rossa" has become a symbol of that incomparable Brescia to Rome experience that will continue to be relived, each year, on every continent.
